Most homepage headlines say nothing. Here is a three-sentence exercise that always finds a better one.

Sentence one: what you do

Write it as if to a friend who does not work in your industry. Use ordinary words.

Sentence two: who it is for

Name the person. A café owner in Bristol is better than small businesses.

Sentence three: what changes

What is different for them afterwards? Faster, cheaper, calmer, safer? Be specific.

Then cut

Your headline is usually inside sentence three. The first two become the line below it.
